AKA: Meeting Your Spirit Guides Part 1

Edit: This post has received a lot of attention, so I’ve decided to expand on it. A lot. This post describes my personal process in working with my guides, and the next two in the series will lay out the entire process for doing something very similar to this. Have fun with it, and be expecting a very exciting, and somewhat amusing, ride!

Who Guides Us?

Finding out who is guiding us is always on top of our minds and imaginations when we open to the spiritual path. This has been an intriguing piece of my education in every sense. Let’s start with who I work with, how they’ve come to work with me, and some key takeaways for you to begin communicating with yours.

My Board of Directors

Channeling and working with my spiritual family is an honor to me. Those whom I lovingly call my “Board of Directors” are high spirits and beings from Nature and the Cosmos who come in balance to answer questions and help me with projects, life concerns, or client work. Depending on the circumstance, I call in only those consummately crucial to the topic at hand. I find that opening to a broader population of guides can make for sloppy, arduous work that can mislead me, make my work take more time (up to years!), and be more difficult – even if they’re the highest and most powerful beings.

Protections

Let’s first discuss the most important thing when channeling or opening to another realm. When working with Spirit or Nature Partners, we must protect ourselves and the other people who might be affected: those within the building or land we’re in/on, everyone involved with a situation, and even those who may experience the ripple effects of the situation in the past, present or future. For good practices, we also always make sure the work or questions/answers we get are “for the good of everyone.”

How Do I Work With My Spirit Partners?

So, now for the good stuff: how do I do my work? The easiest way to put it is, those who I channel and I consider ourselves partners. We’ve been working together for many years. I continue honing my communication skills daily, hourly, and sometimes by the second. This has become more than a practice – it’s now something I do without thinking. It’s not something I schedule, like meditation, yoga, or journaling. It’s a conversation with someone standing at my side. I ask questions, and they respond.  Sometimes, I do schedule and hold actual board meetings with an agenda… but that’s new for me and very important when I have a lot of questions concerning a particular subject and need structured answers. I’m not asking silly questions, replacing gut instinct or my own personal life decisions.

When I ask questions, it’s because I want an answer. When I get this answer (knowing it’s from the highest realms for the highest good of all within a protected space) I take and use the advice. I follow it word for word, without question. At first, this was a bit strange, as I often got illogical answers from them. The more I put my faith and trust in them, the more information they gave me. These days, I’m driving down the road from daycare drop-off with a dictation app on my phone, speaking channelings into existence for things like… well, this blog!

When I was starting, I had to keep an eye out. Things got funky easily. Answers came back “wrong” all the time! However, when I returned to the paper I recorded the question and answer on, I realized they answered the question perfectly… I just asked the question wrong. Learning to ask the right questions to get the answer was the biggest and longest part of my learning process. A sloppy question will produce a perfect yet erroneous answer. Clarity is key.

My Experience in Learning To Receive Answers

When I was learning how to receive answers, I actually had to practice in different ways. The best way at the beginning was to ask questions I knew the answers to. Once I knew how the answers came in, I began asking questions. Simple Yes/No questions that wouldn’t result in disastrous situations. I played with how the questions were phrased. As time went on, I practiced different ways of communicating and asked different questions. I’m now comfortable with easy, fluid conversation.

For me, the main takeaway is trust and action. These partners are from the highest realms and know the answers.  So, if they give me some wild hair, an illogical answer, next step or homework assignment, I do it. Sometimes I have to refine answers or ask more questions to understand, but it always results in action if they ask something of me. They wouldn’t have taken me on as a partner if I didn’t follow through and respect them.

The first step when learning how to communicate with your spirit guides and partners is to learn how to “hear” what they’re saying or “read signs.” They’re already talking to you and guiding you every single moment. They’re already answering your prayers and giving you answers, but they’re not yet in partnership with you, nor are you with them. Learning how to take their messages and turn them into actionable items is the way to build trust in each other and form the partnership that will lead to easy communication and channeling information (whether you want to or not!)

Remember – in the spirit realm we’re probably not going to hear our guides with our ears or see them with our eyes to begin with. Reading signs is learning to use our senses in different ways and read into metaphors. It’s simply just a different language, but humans speak it… we just have to remember how.
