Clearing Your Path: Beginner’s Guide to Spiritual Blocks

The Seeker

We’ve all experienced it. We find ourselves stuck with no motivation, perhaps a sense of a wall in front of us, limiting our growth or spiritual sensations. Maybe you can see through this block to where you’re “supposed to be,” but you can’t bust through, or for some reason everything you’re doing to move forward has you falling backward.

It’s an interesting phenomenon. Let’s talk about what spiritual blocks are and how they can get in the way of our personal growth and spiritual awakening.

What the Heck Are Spiritual Blocks?

Spiritual blocks are irritating and sometimes almost infinite-feeling roadblocks on our growth journey. They show up as physical sensations, mental blocks, or even negative energy, seeming to stop us from diving deeper into life. Sometimes, they make it hard for us to get a job, connect with others meaningfully, or enjoy success – all things we’re looking forward to in our future. These obstacles can make us feel anxious, trapped, and upset as we watch time tick by and wonder if our spiritual work has come to an end.

Emotionally, when our path is blocked we can find ourselves stuck in a loop of bad feelings such as fear, anger, or sadness for no clear reason. These negative emotions act like walls keeping joy, love, and peace at bay, shackling us to old hurts and limiting beliefs. Without the correct mindset around these symptoms, how we grow and improve ourselves can slow down, stop, or begin to seem like work of the hardest and least rewarding kind.

By understanding why we’re experiencing these obstacles and having some tools for emotional healing, we make room for positive changes, letting ourselves heal and change at a deeper level.

How to Overcome Spiritual Blocks

Before you grab a pickaxe and start hacking away at this block, it’s key to understand that Spirit has given it to you for a reason. It is a spiritual gift, a sacred unwrapped package, that you must open and reveal the contents of before heading happily up your ascension path once again. You will find something akin to a puzzle inside, one that is just made, meant, and ultimately created by and for you. Most likely, you will be going on a mini-journey, a pathway of the heart, to re-align with your highest self. So, let’s put the pickaxe away, stop bashing our heads against the wall and adopt a more delicate approach, full of curiosity, to examining the problems at hand.

In order to do this, you have to access this gift from a place of an open heart, an open mind’s eye, and surrounding yourself with loving protection. So, let’s get your mind, heart, and spirit ready. When these are in alignment with your higher self, you know you’ll be given the correct answers.

This, my friends, comes from a place of deep self-love.

Pure self-love in this case is a place in your heart where you can have a conversation with your higher self about the problem, or spiritual block, and experience no self-judgement or negative self-talk. You must be feeling strong enough to receive answers you may not want to hear, or answers that will take you on an unexpected path.

Most of the time the answers that came to us were ones we already knew in our deepest heart upon reflection. These answers and action items of life tend to be of the hardest kind. Perhaps they require standing up for yourself, using your voice, being confrontational, becoming honest with yourself and others, shifting from toxicity in friendships and workplaces, building and maintaining personal boundaries, and so much more. These are normal and healthy things for humans to do, but if we’re unused to doing any of them, learning the skills around them is tough. The more we do so, however, the easier it gets, and the kinder and wiser the language we use is as well. Remember, as you re-structure your life from the answers you learn from your spiritual work with blocks, the more joy, happiness and life purpose you will bring to yourself.

Releasing Spiritual Blocks Requires Quiet Solitude

Begin by creating or finding a special spot where you can connect with the deepest parts of yourself. This place needs to be quiet and full of love. A special meditation room or a park, a salt room at a spa or your car. It doesn’t matter, as long as it’s a place that you can access yourself without outside noise, music, or family members rattling your locked doorknob and shouting your name.

This is your time. Come to this space as a sacred shrine to yourself. Be grateful to yourself that you are here, that you made the time and this spiritual block the utmost importance.

Woman in meditation

Spend some time grounding yourself with meditation or deep breaths – whatever makes you feel centered and true to who you are. It doesn’t need to be much. Just feel like you’re settling into your body. Check in with your toes, your back, your head. Say hello to your mind and feel it relax. Bring that relaxation through all your muscles and rigid bones and just sink in for a little bit. You’re having a wonderful meeting with yourself. Now, simply invite your higher self to this meeting, as well as any ascended masters or archangels you identify with, if that pulls you. Just send the thought out. The second you do, they’re there. You don’t need confirmation or physical evidence that they’re there. Believe. And grab your notebook or journal for the messages they’re about to bring.

There’s no magic formula or timeframe to unraveling your spiritual blocks. Each time you address one you’ll find a new path to take. Understand that this journey might stir up a lot of negative energy and tough feelings but remember, it’s all part of opening the blocks within you that are deterring you from your truth. Removing the negativity by self-exploration, and coming face-to-face with past hurts help you clean out the pestilence from your old wounds. The pain doesn’t last long if you come to this work with absolutely no self-judgement and a healthy dose of empathy for your past and current self.

Step 1: Acknowledging Your Spiritual Blocks

To start dealing with spiritual blocks, the first thing you need to do is admit they’re there. If you’re in your sacred space already trying to access a known block, great! Now feel into them. My blocks feel like a giant stone wall I’m in front of, or sometimes someone standing in front of me with their hand in my face like an overexcited traffic controller. What do yours feel like? Maybe you can see it… what does it look like? How are you sensing it’s there? How do you know it’s there?

As you deepen into observing your block, see, feel, and listen to any negative thoughts or limiting beliefs that pop up. By doing this, you shine a spotlight on these blocks, which is the beginning step of breaking through. Let yourself really experience any negative emotions without being hard on yourself or trying to push them away. Going through this step of recognizing what’s holding you back is key in loosening their hold over your life.

Once you find a block, say hi. It’s there for a reason. If it’s a limiting belief, you created it for a reason a while ago. If it’s societal or parental pressures, they’re there for a reason too. Maybe a specific goal is holding you back, or inflated feelings of unworthiness, low self-confidence, or deep anxiety. The reasons for blockages are usually many-fold; there are layers that need to be unpacked. So, become friends with this block – you’re going to spend some time with it! Start a conversation – you never know what it’ll tell you if you’re kind and open the door to it.

Goals: The Root of Spiritual Blocks?

Before we move on, I want to spend a little time on this word. Goals. It’s one of my least favorite words. I don’t believe in it very much. It tends to harbor invisible negative connotations, strict emotional and mental consequences if they’re not achieved, and frankly, goals leave absolutely no room for spiritual miracles of your magical path and other, more aligned and incredible opportunities to make an entrance… all that I’ll save for another blog post or even full-blown course.

Goals are imaginary things. We make them up. We can make them up for many different reasons, usually never because said goal is at the end of “following our bliss.” What I’m saying is, if your goal is misaligned with your purpose in life, if it’s made from the fabric of “I should” rather than “I deeply want to,” you may be manifesting problems and spiritual blocks! The momentum tunnel and blinders of this goal may be taking you way off your aligned track.

Your blocks may be there to save you – perhaps they exist because one of your guides is standing right in front of you, holding out their hand in a “stop” motion, like mine do. Meditate on this. See if the direction your goal is pointing is right way for you. Sometimes, just turning 15 degrees in either direction may blow the block to smithereens.

Know That You Are Where You’re Supposed to Be

One of the frustrating pieces of spiritual learning we all go through is this very fact. Right now, you are in the perfect place at the perfect time for yourself. What you’re experiencing is meant for you to deal with or learn from in this life. You chose your life and the experiences you’re to move through. You may be paying off past karma. Maybe you are working through some deep wounds and grief without the correct tools to get you through quickly, leaving you with oceans of tears instead of piles of wisdom. Your guides are bringing your attention to the issue, problem, or block at hand because it’s the perfect time for you to deal with it. You’re ready.

Recognizing where you are and admitting it – also taking personal responsibility for how you’ve gotten there and relieving yourself of a victim mentality – will clear the slate for some serious healing and positive shifts to take place. So I invite you to relax into your blockage experience. You must explore it. It’s being presented to you because you have work to do here. You won’t be able to move forward until you do. So start cleaning out your mental and emotional closet. Rip off that band-aid hiding a festering ouchie. Take some of your old baggage to your proverbial Good Will. Empty some energetic space for learning, healing, and growing, and fill it immediately with loving energy.

If you welcome this block with loving arms, knowing it will grow into wisdom and piles of self-love, self-respect, and self-confidence once you heal it, your life will be a breeze through this process. On the other hand, those who meet it with distain, frustration, and even more push-back enter full on war with themselves, with not very positive outcomes. It’s like a night of insomnia – those who relax into it and have some fun with it: thinking good thoughts, imagining a fun future, remembering beautiful memories, or exploring creative explorations of the mind can learn to create a peaceful experience. Those paying more attention to the frustrations rising within while keeping an eye on the clock – otherwise marrying themselves to a night of unrest and mental warfare – will manifest that instead of resting peacefully and creatively in an awake state.

Step 2: Engage with Your Shadows

Woman in shadows

Shadow work is all about diving deep into the parts of us we’ve pushed away or ignored because they made us feel scared or ashamed. It’s like there’s internal enemies, dark energy or negative entities hanging around, messing with how we see things and stopping our spiritual progress. By taking a closer look at our shadow and dealing with the scary stuff and old hurts, we can open the light at the end of this tunnel. This lets us heal deeply and grow out wisdom in amazing ways, moving past that dark energy.

Shadow work means diving deep into our subconscious to find and repair the hidden parts within. These facets of ourselves can stop us from being honest, true to ourself, and feeling real happiness and satisfaction. With shadow work, we look at our fears, doubts that limit us, and old hurts. We bring them out into the open so we understand them, and ourself better. By doing this, we let go of the negative energy these aspects carry with them which allows for dramatic positive changes in how we live.

After recognizing the spiritual hurdles you’re facing, it’s crucial to start dealing with your inner shadows. This means getting into the parts of yourself that might have been pushed down or ignored. Look into what scares you, old wounds, and thoughts that hold you back. Let yourself really feel and work through these emotions. Facing your shadows isn’t easy; it takes bravery and being kind to yourself. If it gets tough, don’t hesitate to lean on a friend who gets it, a therapist, or someone who guides others spiritually for help. By tackling these inner challenges head-on, you’re actively contributing to your own healing journey and setting the stage for deep personal change.

How often you dive into shadow work really depends on what you’re going through and what you need. For some folks, getting into their shadow side regularly can be a big help in growing personally and healing emotionally. This could mean writing in a journal, talking to a therapist, or trying out different ways to spot and fix those hidden thoughts and beliefs that hold us back. It’s all about listening to your gut feeling and doing shadow work as much as you think it’ll help with your own journey of finding out more about yourself and healing from the inside.

One tip I can give you is not to spend too much time here. Use it as a tool, not a most-of-life experience. Dig in, do the work, and then shift out to experience the light part of life. If you’re having difficulty with this, consider joining us in our sacred network at Beyond. We will rise together and make your path much more fun!

Step 3: Using Your Spiritual “Clairs” to Remove Spiritual Blocks

Every spiritual gift, or “clair,” gives us a special way to see and feel the world of spirits. We all have these and can easily develop them further. The way I instruct beginners in accessing their extra sensory perception is to notice their senses in an “extra” kind of way.

When we see things, what more are we seeing, or what are we failing to see? When we feel emotions, where are they really coming from, and do they have a deeper message for us? Things like taste and smell can also bring massive spiritual information to us. Have you ever smelled baking cookies and BAM! You’re right back in the kitchen with your grandmother? Or, smelled wood chips on a hot summer day and suddenly you’re back on the playground in school?

These are messages from beyond. Start thinking about the metaphors behind them. Ask questions of them and about them. Be present with them and begin making the introspection of them habitual.

Clairaudience

With clairaudience, we get closer to our higher self and listen to the wise whispers from within.

Clairvoyance

Clairvoyance is like opening a window in our mind, letting us see visions that teach us more about our spirit path.

Clairsentience

Clairsentience lets us tune into other people’s vibes, making it easier for us to get how they’re feeling and what they’re going through.

Claircognizance

With claircognizance, we suddenly know deep truths without knowing how we know them. It’s like knowledge is just dropped into our head.

To get better at understanding your spiritual side, you need to work on it regularly and with purpose. Here’s a list of my own observations of one can sharpen their inner senses:

  • By setting aside time each day for gentle meditation, you can calm your thoughts and feel more in tune with your intuition. Practice opening your heart chakra, third eye chakra, and crown chakra while you’re in a protected and self-empowered space.
  • The practice of imagining yourself surrounded by a loving light that fills up every part of you and your surroundings, you will not only be protected from lower energies, you will also tap into your own source of pure self-love, a magical tincture that is the foundation of spiritual work.
  • Throughout the day, try to be fully present and aware of the little signs and things you sense around you. Begin to practice thinking out-of-the box and trying to sift through the metaphors of what you’re sensing. Spiritual work is that of poetry – only you can truly decipher the signs given directly to you. The answer that comes the quickest to your mind is correct. Don’t bring it to anyone else, hold on to this sacred information and recognize there’s no need to go to outside spiritual sources for confirmation. This may only muddy your waters and take you off track.
  • Write down what goes through your mind along with any gut feelings or sudden insights. This can help you explore and grow your spiritual clairs.

Our inner senses play a big part in getting past spiritual hurdles and introducing dramatic changes into our spiritual life. By sharpening these skills, we get the spiritual advice and insight needed to move forward.

With clairvoyance, seeing images helps clear up our path ahead. Through clairsentience, feeling emotions and energies connects us with our own intuition and helps tell what’s true. And then there’s claircognizance – knowing stuff without having to figure it out logically gives us deep understanding and awareness, as long as we leave doubt at the door and let faith and deep belief float us along the river of peaceful and powerful spiritual flow.

Step 4: Integrating Lessons from your Spiritual Blocks

After pinpointing and exploring the things holding us back spiritually, it’s time to thank them for their service and retire them from our belief and habitual systems. This will require re-wiring your brain to the new way of thinking and operating, but that’s OK. Neuroplasticity is the way the brain actually changes when we do something differently and learn something new. It happens immediately! However, the changes in our neurons tend to go back to the placement they’re used to, and that’s the reson why it takes time to make new habits. The more you thank and retire old habits and thoughts, all while practicing new ones is the key to changing your grey matter and making your newfound lessons your new habits and personal structure.

Incorporating Daily Practices for Spiritual Wellness

Making time every day for activities that boost our spiritual health is really important if we want to keep a clear and open connection with our spirituality. Doing these things can help us stay in touch with the part of ourselves that’s more than just our everyday selves, keeping us balanced and at peace inside.

With daily habits like meditation, writing down thoughts in a journal, and doing rituals to clean up our energy, we’re able to change misaligned mindsets and self-talk, raise our vibration, understand and have empathy for past negative emotions, and feel closer to our higher self and purpose within. By sticking with these practices regularly, not only do we lay down strong roots for growing spiritually but also ensure we’re moving forward clearly on this path.

One of the best ways to incorporate your spiritual practices is with community. Our Beyond network is full of people just like YOU. No matter what stone on the spiritual path you’re on, we’ve all either been there or will be there soon, so your being part of the group is invaluable, not just to us, but to you as well.

You’ll be able to hand over your questions (any questions at all… they’re all amazingly interesting when asked in a spiritual context!) and we will collectively answer, and Analiesa will be there with spiritual coaching as well.

To ease your ascension and journey further, she does weekly energy alignment and balancing sessions and brings back channeled information for the week to integrate into your life. It’s a vibrant community full of people on their way up and out of negativity, into glowing and positive purpose. We’d love for you to join!

Conclusion

As you go through the journey of growing spiritually and getting past obstacles, it’s important to keep in mind that being aware of yourself is crucial. Recognize your darker sides, work on making your spiritual vision clear, and use what you learn to keep moving ahead.

Make a habit of doing things every day that help you connect with who you are deep down, which helps maintain your spiritual health. Facing challenges and bumps in the road is normal; just keep going strong.

Sticking with this path shows how much you’re really growing. When working on clearing out those spiritual hurdles, make taking care of yourself and finding out more about who you are a top priority. Welcome the big changes that come from dealing with these shadows directly and seeking clarity in your spirituality as you move towards truly understanding yourself.
